992,610. Rolling. MORGAN CONSTRUCTION CO. Sept. 23, 1963 [Sept. 24, 1962], No. 37317/63. Heading B3M. A rolling mill having a pair of rolls mounted within a frame has roll adjustment apparatus which gives the rolls equal and opposite movement in order to retain a fixed pass line. A mill frame 10 supports rolls 2 and 4 in chocks 12 and 40, the upper chocks having trunnions 16 and 18 mounted in collars formed with first eccentrics 20 and 22 and integral second eccentrics 32 and 34. The eccentrics 20 and 22 are supported by collars 24 and 26 which rest on supports 21 and 23 of the frame such that axial movement of the chocks is allowable. Depending from the eccentrics 32 and 34 are links 36 and 38 within which are supported trunnions of the lower chocks. Integral with the first and second eccentrics are upwardly extending arms 28 and 30, which, when rotated turn the eccentrics to alter the roll pass. Rotation of the first eccentrics moves the trunnions 16 and 18, and hence the upper roll, relative to the frame, while simultaneous rotation of the second eccentrics shifts the links relative to the trunnions. Hence, if the trunnions are moved upwardly one unit the links are moved downwardly two units, since the second eccentrics have double the throw of the first ones, the pass line thus remaining fixed. Rotation of the eccentrics is effected by shifting the tops of arms 30 and 32 by rods 84, one rod being provided for each pair of arms at each end of the rolls. Rotation of hand wheels 78 turns internally threaded members 74 to axially shift the rolls, differential adjustment of the ends thus being possible. When coarse roll adjustment is also desired, third and fourth eccentrics, 98, 100, 102, and 104, Fig. 8, can also be employed, these being mounted on an integral sleeve around each upper roll trunnion and positioned inside the pivot and second eccentrics. In this case the original eccentrics are no longer integral but rotationally keyed together. Discs 112 are rotated to actuate the third and further eccentrics, and pins 116, cooperating with slots 130, lock the discs in position, the first and second eccentrics remaining unaltered. The rolls can, if desired, by mounted vertically. Specification 942,445 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 942,445.
