Abstract

992,300. Grinding. W. LIDSTER. April 24, 1964 [May 13, 1963], No. 18823/63. Heading B3D. A sanding tool attachment comprises a cylindrical resiliently-yieldable body 1 mounted around a central rigid member having a projecting shank 3 for insertion in the driving chuck of a power-operated hand tool, the periphery of the body having a permanently-attached discontinuous friction surface 4 to which a replaceable abrasive endless strip band 5 will frictionally adhere when the body is squeezed thereinto. The body 1 may be of foamed plastic material and may be mounted on the rigid member in the manner described in Specification 880,818. The friction surface consists of a number of strips of emery paper or sand paper of coarse grade secured by adhesive to the body with their rough surfaces facing outwardly to frictionally engage a replaceable abrasive strip, such as an endless band 5 of sandpaper, emery paper or glass paper, when the body is squeezed into the band.
