992,248. Copying lathes. VERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Aug. 18, 1961 [Sept. 9, 1960], No. 29856/61. Heading B3T. A copying device for lathes and like machine tools has a feeler with a number of stepwise feeler tips co-operating with a templet mounted on a vertically indexible carrier so that the templet can be brought into register with each of the different feeler tips. The sliding member 9, Fig. 1, of the control valve for the copying cylinder 4 carries a depending plate on which the feeler 10 is mounted. The feeler has two operative stepped edges and can be bolted in a second position at 180 degrees to the first when a new set of steps are required. The securing bolt 5, 8, Fig. 2, for the feeler is " necked " so that it can shear to avoid damage to other parts. The stepped edges of the feeler are brought selectively into operative engagement with a templet 17 secured to an adjustable slide 21 mounted for indexible vertical movement on a support 26 which is bolted to a member slidable longitudinally on guides 12, Fig. 1, of the lathe bed. The vertical movement of the templet carrier to bring the templet into line with the selected feeler step is effected electrically by moving a selector switch 43, Fig. 2. This may be effected automatically. The lowermost step of the feeler has a pointed edge to follow sharp recesses and the final step on the feeler is small so that the last edge effects a finishing operation. More than one templet may be used, a second one 22 being shown clamped below the main templet 17.
