Abstract

A stabilizer composition which may be used for solid olefine polymers comprises a light stabilizer which is a 2-hydroxy-4-aliphatic hydrocarbon (C4-11) or hydrocarbonoxy (C4-11) benzophenone and a diester of thiodiglycollic or b ,b 1-thiodipropionic acid. The diester may be an ester of a C9-20 alcohol and the benzophenone may be 2-hydroxy-4-alkoxy benzophenone. The polymer may be polyethylene or isotactic polypropylene. The compounded polymer may be pressed into sheets. The composition may also contain a phenolic antioxidant, e.g. a condensate of 3 mol. of 3-methyl-6-tertiary (butyl or octyl) phenol with 1 mol. of crotonaldehyde or cinnamaldehyde.
