In a shelf or other furniture assembly spaced vertical frames 16, 17 each comprise parallel pairs of supports 18, 19 and shelves comprise parallel equally spaced ribs 10 welded to transverse rods 11, 12, 13, the front and rear edges being formed by pairs of spaced ribs 14, 15. Coupling devices 23 each comprise a semi-circular socket 24 to receive a support 18 or 19 and integrally joined to the socket 24 is a channel section 25 which embraces ribs 14, 15, a tab 28 with neck 29 and head 30 being provided at the other end.
