Abstract

989,844. Heat-insulated pipes. MIDWESCO - ENTERPRISE Inc. March 26, 1964, No. 12966/64. Heading F2P. Means for supporting a lagged pipe 12 within a tubular easing 11 comprises a corrugated space ring 18 slidably mounted between the casing and an annular sleeve 16 secured to the pipe lagging 14. The sheet metal sleeve 16, which secures the insulation, preferably of fibreglass, asbestos or calcium silicate in the form of half cylinders, about the metal inner pipe 12, is provided with stops 20 and 21 to retain and relatively position the sheet metal corrugated spacer ring axially on the sleeve. The construction permits relative expansion and contraction between the lagged pipe and casing by relative sliding of the crests of the corrugations 19 on the sleeve and casing and also permits the free flow of air and drainage in the annular lagging/casing space. The insulation may alternatively be formed from cylinders or contiguous annular segments. The outer casing is preferably constructed of spirally-welded steel strip.
