Abstract
In a process for the surface treatment of bright iron or steel wire to be embedded in glass for reinforcement thereof, the wire is provided with a visible oxide coating completely covering the wire surface, the process being characterized in that the wire is heated in air, oxygen or in a protective gas to which air or oxygen is added in proportioned quantities, to a temperature of 200-450 DEG C. and subsequently cooled in static or flowing air to a temperature below 50 DEG C. In an example wire is de-scaled, drawn to a diameter of approximately 2 mm., intermediately annealed and then welded to form a net. The net is heated in air at approximately 230 DEG C. and then cooled in a mixture of protective gas and air at room temperature.
