Abstract
An enamelled steel sheet comprises a coating of vitreous enamel on a steel sheet containing 0.01% max C; 0.2-0.5% Mn; 0.03% max S; 0.01% max P, and the balance iron and unavoidable impurities. During the enamelling operation the steel has a sag increase of less than 0.1 inch at the centre of a 10 inch span at 1550-1600 DEG F. The amount of impurities desirable in the steel have the following proportions: Al, 0.25% max; Si, 0.10% max; Ti, 0.05% max; Zr, 0.05% max, and traces of Cu, Cr, and Ni. Decarburization to less than 0.003% C may be obtained by annealing at 1200-1300 DEG F. in an atmosphere containing 10-16% H2 with the balance N2 and traces of water vapour.
