989,138. Liquid level indicators. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. April 3, 1964 [April 10, 1963], No 14465/63. Heading G1H. A liquid level gauge comprises a vertical tube 1 of non-magnetic material containing a dielectric fluid 2 and a small quantity of iron powder 3, and a float 4 containing a magnet surrounds the tube 1 and the arrangement is such that the iron powder 3 tends to concentrate in the fluid 2 in the field of the magnet 4 to short circuit conductor wires 6, 7 of known resistances so that by attaching a suitably calibrated ohmmeter in the circuit with the wires 6, 7 the liquid level 14 can be read.
