872,552. Centrifugal pump impellers. SMART, R. E. April 17, 1959 [July 28, 1958], No. 24228/58. Class 110 (1) An impeller for a centrifugal pump comprises an inner shroud or disc 1 formed with integral vanes 4 and a central boss 2 secured on a driving-shaft 3, and an outer shroud or disc 5 having a central aperture 6 traversed by a bridge or spider, the outer shroud or disc 5 being mounted directly on the driving-shaft 3 and abutting against the vanes 4 of the inner shroud or disc 1. The inner and outer discs are keyed to the shaft 3, and the outer disc is held on the shaft by screw means 11. Alternatively or additionally the two discs may be secured against relative rotation by pins, screws or the like. The vanes 4, of curved form, terminate short of the inner disc boss 2 to allow clear space for the passage of fluid, but two vanes run into the boss to form a seating 9 for the bridge or spider of the outer disc 5. The bridge or spider members are streamlined to assist the flow of fluid.
