Abstract
988,313. Thermionic valves. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 25, 1963 [April 5, 1962 (2)], No. 11664/63. Heading H1D. Two electron discharge devices, e.g. pentodes, are attached by their top and bottom supports to a shield member to form an integral unit resiliently located in a single envelope by said supports. As shown, the shield member 51 is an electrostatic and/or electromagnetic screen, but in an alternative arrangement (Fig. 7, not shown) the shield forms part of the anode of one of the devices. The electrode supports 12, 13, 21, 22 are of mica and are slotted to receive self-locking tabs 54 on the shield on to which both devices are pushed. A number of alternative securing arrangements are described; some (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) employ differently shaped self-locking tubs while others (Figs. 1 and 2, 7 and 8) use plain or curved tabs with rectangular slots and the design is such that the shield is assembled with the electrodes of one device and the other one is afterwards attached by hooking on to the tabs, which may provide a camming action. The second device may then be held by welding a shield bracket to one of its electrode supporting rods.
