Abstract

[Also in Division B3] A device for conveying molten metal from a container 1 to a lower liquid level container 7 comprises a siphon pipe 3, 6, having at its highest point a chamber 5 which may be evacuated or filled with air as desired. The container 7 is first filled with melt. When the chamber 5 is evacuated via valve 14 and pipe 9, the chamber and siphon pipe fill with melt until the melt engages a contact rod 11 which actuates a circuit 12 causing the valve 14 to close. The siphon then conveys the melt continuously, the melt overflowing from the container 7 into a mould 15 until a valve 16 which may be controlled by a time element, is actuated to supply air to the chamber 5 and stop the flow.
