A float operated switch assembly comprises a liquid-tight casing 1 housing a micro-switch 2, a plunger 3 secured to the float 4, and a dashpot cylinder 7 mounted on the upper end of the plunger; the outer surface of the cylinder including two axially spaced cylindrical portions 8, 9 of different diameter joined by a frustoconical surface 11, and an operating arm for the micro-switch being biased against the outer surface of the dashpot cylinder so that the switch is actuated upon movement of the plunger.
