Abstract

Spinnable and dyeable polypropylene compositions are produced by blending polypropylene with 0.01-25% of an aliphatic amine, an araliphatic amine, a bis-amide viz. R1X1R2X2R3 where R1 and R3 are the same or different alkyl groups, R2 is an alkylene group, X1 and X2 are the same or different and are -NHCO- or -CONH-, and/or a bis-methane viz. R1X3R2X4R3 where R1, R2 and R3 are as before and X3 and X4 are the same or different and are -NHCOO- or -COONH-. Two or more different aliphatic and/or araliphatic amines may be used. Fibres, films and shaped articles may be formed. The preferred amines are aliphatic linear primary amines with at least 8 C atoms.ALSO:Dyeable polypropylene compositions are produced by blending polypropylene with 0.01-25% of an aliphatic amine, araliphatic amine, a bisamide viz. R1 X1 R2 X2 R3 where R1 and R3 are the same or different alkyl groups, R2 is an alkylene group, X1 and X2 are the same or different and are -NHCO- or -COHN-, and/or a bis urethane viz. R1 X3 R2 X4 R3 where R1 R2 and R3 are as before and X3 and X4 are the same of different and are -NHCOO- or COONH-. Fibres and films may be formed and have affinity for azoic, disperse, acid, chrome, premetallized, direct and reactive dyestuffs.
