Abstract
985,917. Hydrodynamic couplings. ETA CORPORATION G.m.b.H. June 26, 1961 [June 24, 1960], No. 23003/61. Heading F2C. The blades of the impeller P, Fig. 1, and turbine T of a hydrodynamics coupling have edges 3 defining an annular space 4 between the blades and stationary or rotating parts of the casing, the outer peripheral edges of the blades being provided with covers or shrouds 2. The covers or shrouds may be extended to bound the spaces 4 and be secured to the input and output shafts A, B, or a stationary casing may bound the space and be extended to enclose the covers 2. In another embodiment, the cover or shroud 14, Fig. 3, of the runner T is connected to the output shaft B and embraces the cover or shroud 13 of the impeller to form the bounding wall of the annular space in the impeller. The spaces serve to limit the torque transmitted by the transmission during acceleration. Baffles, controllers, axially - movable elastic covers, scoops, retarding chambers, or other discharging and deflecting devices may be accommodated in the space formed in the impeller to effect control of the transmission.
