In a carrier and weighting arm 1 for the top rollers 16 of a drafting device each roller has a guide arm 8 mounted in the carrier arm 1 so as to allow each roller 16 to pivot at right angles to the drafting field (i.e. about a pin 7) and also in a plane parallel to the drafting field (i.e. about a line x-x), a a spring loaded member 11 pivotal about a pin 12 fixed relative to the arm 1 being pinned to the guide arm 8 by a pin 10 to transmit loading to the roller. The holes in arm 8 through which the pins 7 and 10 pass are made knifeedged and have play relative to the pins so that the pivotal movement of roller 16 and arm 8 about the line X-X may take place. The pin 12 passes through a slot 18 in guide arm 8 such that on lifting carrier arm 1 pin 12 engages the end of slot 18 to prevent the roller 16 dropping. The bracket 5 in which the arm 8 is pivotally mounted is attached by a screw 6 to carrier arm 1 so as to be adjustable therealong. The member 11 and bracket 5 may be constructed such that spring 14 may be adjusted relative thereto to adjust the loading on the associated roller.
