Abstract

985,571. Springs. J. B. TIGRETT. Sept. 15, 1961 [Oct. 17, 1960], No. 33160/61. Heading F2S. [Also in Division F4] A coil spring, Figs. 4, 5, consists of at least one metallic ribbon 74, 76 which is enclosed within a synthetic plastics sheath 70, made e.g. of nylon, and which is preformed longitudinally so that the spring is capable of coiling into a spiral having transversely flat inner and outer faces, either the ribbon, or the plastic sheath, or both, being preformed transversely so that, when uncoiled, the spring has a transverse cross - section which is other than straight. The spring is also described as being of trough-shaped and curved cross-section, Figs. 7, 9 (not shown). In a counterpoise suspension for an extendable lamp (see Division F4), two coil springs are interleaved to form a single coil 56, the free ends of the coil springs being connected respectively, e.g. to a ceiling and to a lamp structure, Fig. 3 (not shown).
