Heading D1G In a buttonhole sewing machine the buttonhole is cut, while the second side of the buttonhole is being sewn, by a heated member positioned at the rear of the needle. The cutting member 1, which passes through an aperture in the work support 4, is mounted on a leaf spring 2 and is thereby biased into engagement with the work T. Member 1 is connected to the secondary winding of a transformer 10. The circuit connected to the primary winding of the latter contains a manually-operated switch 11, a micro-switch 12 closed by the starting lever 14 of the machine when lever 14 is in the running position, and a micro-switch 13 which is closed, for heating member 1, by a cam 15 when the second side of the buttonhole is being sewn. The arrangement is used for sewing buttonholes in thermoplastic material.
