984,749. Hose end-fittings. SINGLEHURST ENGINEERING Ltd. Dec. 5, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962; March 9, 19631, Nos. 46388/62 and 9448/63. Heading F2G. An end fitting for a hose of the kind which has a braided reinforcement 14 of wire or the like between an outer layer 13 and an inner layer 16 of rubber or the like comprises a tubular insert 5 which is entered into the hose and a ferrule 1 which is connected to the insert by an inwardly extending flange 2 and which has internal grooves 4 spaced from the inside face 3 of the flange 2 over a length corresponding to the length of a soft sleeve 15 which is a close fit inside the ferrule and over the reinforcement 14 at the end of the hose from which the outer layer 13 has been removed over a length of not less than that from the face 3 to the adjacent end of the ferrule; the ferrule being pushed over the hose end until the hose end lies between the face 3 and the adjacent groove 4 and being contracted over the portion of its length provided with grooves. The ferrule is of steel and its flange 2 is brazed to the insert 5 which is also of steel and has external grooves 10. The ends of the insert 5 and ferrule may be chamfered. The insert has a nipple 7 carrying a union nut 9. The sleeve 15 is of aluminium and may have an internal screw thread rolled in or comprised by the inside turns of a wire coil (not shown).
