Abstract
982,606. Feeding endless conveyers. G. K. N. STEEL CO. Ltd. Feb. 4, 1963 [Feb. 10, 1962], No. 5188/62. Heading B8A. An apparatus for elevating billets 9 successively from a pile, comprises a plurality of endless chains 14 spaced in side-by-side relationship on a longitudinal frame 10 and each carrying aligned billet carriers 16, a billet feeding table 18 tiltable between an inoperable horizontal, and an inclined feeding position by means of an hydraulic ram 23, the latter being controlled in timed relationship with the chains 14, by a cam arrangement, to prevent tilting while the carriers 16 are moving through a position where they would be struck by any advancing billets. An hydraulic pump 25 which pressurizes the ram 23, is driven by an electric motor 27. A switch controlling this motor 27 is actuated by a spring-loaded cam follower engaging a cam 32 (Fig. 3, not shown) which is chain-driven through a reduction gear, from the driving-shaft 12 of the elevating chains 14. The table 18 returns to its horizontal position under its own weight to rest on a supporting abutment 26 of a supporting frame 24, upon depressurization of the ram 23 by the described electrical means or by a manually operable valve. The forward edge of the table 18 is pivoted at 20 to a permanently inclined feeding platform 11, by means of brackets 21, 22. Rails on each side of the chains 14 prevent the billets damaging the elevating runs 14a of the chains. Specification 982,605 is referred to.
