Abstract

981,366. Pipe couplings; stubbing boxes. BENDIX CORPORATION. May 30, 1963 [June 27, 1962], No. 21734/63. Headings F2B and F2G. [Also in Division H2E] A coupling device for use in a terminal fitting for a cylindrical, elongated member consists of an annular rubber-like gland 39, fitting around the outside 14 of the member and having circumferentially spaced, axiallyextending, resilient fingers 49, lying between gland 39 and the sheath 14, so that when nut 50 is tightened the gland is compressed axially and hence expands radially and the ends of fingers 49 are forced into engagement with the outside 14 of the member. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the gripping ring at the inner end of seat 35 is omitted, as also is the annular zone of greater diameter in the inner sidewall of the gland at the inner end of the seat. The ends of the fingers 40 may be bent sharply inwards to increase the biting effect into the sheath.
