Abstract

[Also in Division H2] Leakage of electromagnetic wave energy between the flanges of adjacent waveguide or coaxial line sections is prevented by recessing the flanges in such a manner that the flanges contact each other over the protruding planar areas between the recesses. The protruding areas need not register exactly, but may overlap. As shown, the flanges 1, 2 of adjacent waveguides are provided with corresponding annular grooves 5, 6 of triangular section. The distance between the grooves is a small fraction of the wavelength of the propagated energy. Straight grooves or two systems of intersecting straight grooves may be used. The waveguides 1, 2 are coupled by a screw-threaded collar 3.
