[Also in Divisions B1 and F1] Earth to be conveyed by suction through a pipe 5 has gas or liquid or a gas/liquid mixture injected through perforated pipes 3 below its surface 2 to bring the mass into a suspension of substantially uniform consistency, the rate of conveyance being controlled by varying the rate of supply of gas or liquid to vary the concentration of the suspension. The pipe 5 may be adjusted vertically so that a suspension of a desired concentration may be separated from the mass. The pipes 3 may be used in a container 1 or may be used for the conveyance of virgin earth located either above or under water. Specification 309,101 is referred to.
