Abstract

A component forming part of an aerial cross arm assembly includes a first channel member 8 adapted to form a cross arm when in end-to-end aligned relationship with a second channel member 9 said first channel member having at one end thereof a socket in which the second member can be fitted said socket being formed by two tongued plates 20, 21 each having a tongue 26, 27 inclined towards the other plate and towards the end of the first member which is in the socket the tongues being inserted into respective apertures 14, 16 in each of two opposite walls 10, 12 of the first channel member and disengageable from said apertures by relative movement between the first member and the tongued plates, and a stop member 30 extending between the tongued plates and adapted, for releasing the second member, to allow relative disengaging movement of the tongued plates and first channel member to take place until each tongue is partially disengaged from its respective aperture with the stop member abutting the first channel member and preventing further disengaging movement, said stop member also being adapted to clamp the tongued plates to the two members to secure the members in the aligned relationship. In the construction shown the stop member is a screw which engages a threaded aperture in the plate 21 and is positioned a small distance from the end surface 33 of member 8. The two plates 20 and 21 are both flanged and each, in addition to the tongue, is formed with a projection 28 or 29 which engage apertures 15 or 17 in the second member 9. In a modification the end surfaces of the members 8 and 9 are arranged to engage each other, recesses being provided in each to provide passage for the screw 30.
