1322498 Releasable fastenings; scaffolding joint RAPID METAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 12 Nov 1970 [22 Oct 1969 12 Nov 1969] 51752/69 and 55390/69 Headings E1S and E2A A scaffolding joint for connecting together a pair of mutually perpendicular scaffolding members 11, 18 comprises a pair of joint parts 10, 17 one of the joint parts 10 being adapted for connection to the side of one of said members 11 and the other joint part being adapted for connection to the end portion of the other member 18, said joint parts being so shaped as to be interengageable with each other so that when engaged and connected to the members relative movement between the members in a direction at right angles to the length of each member is prevented, one of said joint parts carrying a screw-threaded rotatable member 24 which is threadedly engaged with said one joint part, the other joint part having a recess or aperture adapted to receive one end portion of said screw-threaded rotatable member when the latter is moved in one axial direction by rotation relative to the joint part which carries it. In the construction shown the rotatable member 24 is carried by the joint part 17 which has a screwthreaded aperture 21 for the purpose and the recess or aperture (shown as an aperture) is in the joint part 10; the end portion of the member 24 is of frusto-conical configuration and the peripheral surface of the recess or aperture is similarly of a frusto-conical configuration; the disposition of the rotatable member relative to the recess or aperture is such that the joint parts are forced into tight engagement with each other. As shown the two joint parts are prevented from movement in the said direction by each having a projection 15, 22 which engages a slot 23, 16 in the other, but in a modification the slot 16 and the projection 22 are omitted: instead, the part 10 has a channel into which the lower edge portion of the part 17 engages. Instead of the part 17 having a screw-threaded aperture it can have a nut engaged by the rotatable member.
