Abstract

978,457. Valves. H. W. ANGELERY. July 31, 1963 [Aug. 15, 1962], No. 30379/63. Heading F2V. A dynamically balanced valve has an inlet passage 11 and an outlet passage 12 and a valve closure member 28 which is arranged to move towards and away from a valve seat 19, the closure member being formed with a tubular extension 38 which extends through the seat into the outlet passage and is formed with a radially outwardly extending inclined vane the outer periphery of which is spaced from the valve seat to allow fluid to flow between the vane and the seat, the extension also being provided with ports such as 46 on opposite sides of the vane with the port on the downstream side subjected to the aspirating action of fluid flowing along the extension on the downstream side of the vane. The valve has a diaphragm-actuated plunger 10 which first opens a ball valve 34 to equalize the pressure in a valve guide 21 with that in the outlet passage 15 and then engages the extension 38 to open the closure member 28 itself. In the preferred embodiment, four vanes are formed on the extension and each vane may have a reversely inclined end portion 52 to prevent rotation of the closure member by the fluid flow. The inclination of the vanes and the ratio of the port diameters on opposite sides of the vane may be altered. U.S.A. Specification 2,805,039 is referred to.
