977,666. Sewing machines. MEFINA S.A. Aug. 27,1963 [Sept. 14,1962], No. 33812/63. Heading D1G. In a vertical-axis rotary hook abutments on the bobbin case co-operate, for allowing passage of the needle thread, with abutments on upward extensions from a plate which is situated beneath the abutments, said plate being oscillated by a cam fixed to the hook driving shaft. A hook body 1, carrying a hook 7, is fixed to a vertical shaft 2 driven by fears 4, 5 from a horizontal shaft 6. A bobbin case 8, journalled in body 1, has fixed thereto by screws 16 a plate 15 formed with abutments 13, 14 which are positioned on opposite sides of the needle axis 12, and which co-operate with abutments 19, 20. The latter are formed on respective posts 30, 31 rising from a plate 18 which is situated beneath the hook body and is pivoted to a pin 22 on a fixed horizontal plate 23, the axis of pin 22 being situated between the abutments 19, 20. Plate 18 has an opening 24 with parallel sides 25, 26 engaged by an eccentric 27 on shaft 2, whereby plate 18 oscillates to engage and separate alternately abutments 13,19 and 14, 20, the inter-engaging surfaces of the abutments being concentric with the axis of pin 22. A curved edge of plate 18 engages an anti-friction abutment 28 on plate 23, and anti-friction studs 29, depending from plate 18, slidably engage plate 23.
