In a water-closet pan 2 the upper periphery provides an integral sitting area adapted to be heated, e.g. by having a hollow bore 9 around the pan in close contact with the surface 5 to open at the rear thereof. An electric heating element is within the bore or the bore 9 is oilfilled and connected to an electric heating unit, is connected to a hot-water supply system, or to a hot-air circulation system. The pan 2 is formed of glazed ceramic or other electrically non-conducting material and has a cover for closing the top.
