[Also in Divisions E1 and E2] In apparatus for boring earth a pipe (not shown) has a fitting 31 (Fig. 5) screwed into its upper end, the fitting carrying lugs 37 each adapted to engage the interior of a connector 27 (Fig. 4) at the end of a cable through slots 40a, 40b and to be locked in engagement by a rotary slotted sleeve 44. In a modification (Figs. 12, 13, not shown) the lugs are carried by the connector, and the slots are formed in the fitting which is fixed to the pipe by expanding a pair of toothed arms to engage the interior of the pipe. In a further modification (Fig. 14) a lug 78 on a connector 80 forms a hook engageable with sockets 76, 77 in the fitting 74.
