Abstract

972,984. Exciting dynamo-electric machines; control of D.C. motors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 11, 1961 [May 17, 1960], No. 16829/60. Headings H2A and H2J. Either the armature or field winding of a D.C. machine is arranged to be energized via a full wave rectifier circuit, whereby the direction of the current through the winding is independent of the supply polarity. Referring to Fig. 2 a compound motor, which may be long or short shunt, has field windings 1, 1<SP>1</SP> supplied from rectifier bridges 2, 2<SP>1</SP> so that reversal of the direction of rotation is obtained by reversal of the supply. In Fig. 1 (not shown), a motor has a series field winding connected to the supply and its armature energized from the output of the bridge rectifier. In the drawing accompanying the Provisional Specification (not shown) a machine has a shunt field connected to the bridge output. The Provisional Specification also described the arrangement applied to D.C. generators.
