Abstract

1,012,030. Alternators. LICENTIA PATENTVERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Aug. 29, 1962 [Aug. 30, 1961], No. 33190/62. Heading H2A. A synchronous machine is excited through a rectifier from an inductor alternator of the type which has rotating poles of opposite polarity excited by a fixed field coil or permanent magnet. The inductor alternator may be of conventional type (Figs. 1-4, not shown), but as shown, is mounted beneath the pole-wheel 16 of a water-turbine driven alternator. Two such exciters are used, an auxiliary exciter 21 and a main exciter 22, one exciting itself and also the other through rectifiers 29 and regulator 31. The two exciters employ a common stator core-ring 28, the stators 27, 34 and field coils 23, 30 of the two machines being on either side respectively. Flux circuits are completed through interdigitated rotor poles of alternate polarities 26 and 33 for the two machines respectively. The output of the main exciter is fed to slip-rings 36 over rectifier 35. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown), the auxiliary exciter may comprise two axially spaced generators. A single field coil may be used.
