972,576. Filling teeth. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. July 29, 1963, No. 30009/63. Heading A5R. [Also in Division F1] A syringe for dispensing small quantities of materials liquefied or softened by heat, e.g. plastics, for filling teeth, comprises a cylinder 18 of electrically conducting material connected directly to a source of current, e.g. at 2 volts, and housing a piston 5 operated on its delivery stroke manually or by a piston 2 operated by air or inert gas, and on its return stroke by a spring 3. The wall of cylinder 18 may be of different thicknesses along its axis to determine the heat concentrations. The delivery stroke is initiated by closing the outlet of a resilient pipe 10 leading from motor cylinder 1, by pressing the pipe outlet against a pad 11. In another embodiment, pipe 10 leads to a cooling chamber surrounding cylinder 18, an outlet in the chamber wall being closed, e.g. by a finger, to control the delivery stroke. The syringe is surrounded by a plastics casing 21, 22 having cooling apertures, as shown. The material to be dispensed is supplied to the cylinder in granular or rod form. A nozzle may be fitted to the end of the cylinder. Electrical leads 19, 20 may be housed in the air line. The cylinder assembly is located by bayonet means 14.
