Abstract

905,176. Fuel igniters; electric fan heaters. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 15, 1961 [Feb. 18, 1960], No. 5785/60. Classes 39 (3) and 126. ' An electrically-operated fuel igniter comprises an electric heating element 2 housed in a ceramic air flow tube 1 surrounded by a concentric metal tube 15 which is spaced from tube 1 by heat-insulating material 16. The nickel-chromium heating element 2 is threaded through rows of holes 3-6 in the tube 1. The tube 15 is located away from tube 1 by a clip 30, tube 1 being pressed against this clip by a spring 31 compressed against a shoulder 35 of the casing 23. Outside the tube 15 is a further tube 32 supplied with air. A blower 22 mounted in the casing 23 may be operated by the motor described in Specification 761,583. The casing also contains a cut-out 27 and a key-operated switch 28 to ensure that although the blower may work when the element 2 is de-energized, the converse may not happen. A nozzle 17 is fixed over the end of tube 15, comprising an inner tube 18 projecting back into tube 1, and an outer clip 19.
