Abstract

A flock textile is produced by closing all the interstices existing in the structure of the base fabric with a soluble size, applying adhesive to the fabric, setting short fibres thereon and then dissolving the said size. A foundation fabric may be applied to the back of the base fabric. The closing of the interstices, and the backing of the foundation fabric, may be performed at the same time with a soluble size. The base fabric may be a coarse and soft knit fabric, lawn, marquisette, or nonwoven fabric of natural or synthetic fibres such as cotton, wool, acetate silk, viscose silk, polyvinyl resin, polyester resin, e.g. "Terylene" (Registered Trade Mark), polyamide resin, e.g. nylon, or mixtures thereof. The size may be water- or solvent-soluble and may be polyvinyl alcohol, acrylic acid, starch, tragacanth gum, cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate, or mixture thereof. The foundation fabric may be paper, cloth, thin synthetic resin sheet, or rubber sheet. Adhesives specified contain polyvinyl acetate, nitrile rubber, and phenol-formaldehyde resins. The fibres may be flocked evenly by static electricity.
