970,452. Cutting meat &c. G. G. TURNER. Dec. 28, 1962, No. 48816/62. Heading A4C. In an assembly for the continuous chopping of meat or other materials, meat is fed continuously through a commuting device 11 and into a rotary cup 31 wherein the accumulation of comminuted meat in the peripheral zone 54 is discharged through a bent tube 64 extending into the accumulation zone. A plurality of sectorshaped knives 33 are mounted on a rotary shaft 14 with their bevelled cutting edges extending in close proximity to the wall of a cylindrical housing 29. Particles of meat are pumped into the cylinder 29 through an inlet 50 and pass downwardly as a sleeve along the wall of the cylinder 29 due to the high rotational speed of the knives 33 to pass into the cup 31 keyed to the shaft 14 and collect in the peripheral zone 54. The movement is assisted by inclined vanes 52, 53 on the cup 31. The meat then passes through the pipe 64 and out through the stationary discharge pipe 56 to be used for example as sausage meat. The whole apparatus is sealed to facilitate continuous evacuation of air by suction means applied to an outlet 45 in the cylinder 29. Alternatively, the interior may be subjected to the action of a gas, e.g. nitrogen, under pressure. U.S.A. Specification 2,974,701 is referred to.
