Abstract

An improvement in the sterile bottling or canning of carbonated beer and the like by the procedure of the parent Specification consists in adding to the beverage, before the filling, a bactericide which decomposes to substances compatible with the beverage, and, with the bactericide treatment, haze-forming proteins may be absorbed by a bentonite, an activated carbon or a silica gel, the absorbent being filtered or centrifuged off, or haze-forming proteins may be decomposed by an enzyme preparation.ALSO:Improvement in the sterile bottling or canning of carbonated beer or the like by the procedure of the parent Specification consists in adding to the beverage, before the filling, a bactericide which decomposes after a limited period into substances which are compatible with the beverage. The bactericide is pyrocarbonic acid diethyl ester, C2H5O.CO.O.CO.OC2H5, which decomposes to carbon dioxide and ethanol, not more than 0.05g./1 being added. With the bactericide treatment, haze-forming proteins may be absorbed by a bentonite, an activated carbon or a silica gel, the absorbent being filtered or centrifuged off, or haze-forming proteins may be decomposed by an enzyme preparation.
