Abstract

968,656. Rotary pumps. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. June 7, 1963 [June 12, 1962], No. 22757/63. Heading F1F. A rotary pump comprises a tubular body 1 housing rings 14a ... 14f rotatably mounted on eccentrics 13a . . . 13f attached to a rotatable shaft 11, the rings being enclosed by flexible tubular members 6, 15. The member 15 has a substantially square cross-section attached at its corners to grooves 16 in the body 1 by wires, or rods 17. The member 6 is attached to the member 15 at points between its corners by e.g. synthetic cement or welding. The eccentrics 13a .... 13f are arranged on the shaft 11 with their points of maximum eccentricity lying on a helical path, whereby rotation of the shaft causes fluid to be displaced from an inlet port 2 to an outlet port 3 through passages 15<SP>1</SP> between the tubular members 6, 15 and the body 1. The member 6 may be internally pressurized by fluid passing through this member from an inlet port 25 to an outlet port 27 communicating with a pressure fluid source (not shown), whereby the delivery rate of the pump can be controlled and heat generated by the pump can be dissipated. The pressure within the member 6 may be communicated to a pressure gauge (not shown) through a hole 30 and an axial duct in a bearing 10 for the shaft 11. A cooling jacket (not shown) may be provided on the exterior of the body 1.
