966,702. Hydraulic accumulators. OLAER PATENT CO. Nov. 30, 1960 (Dec. 9, 1959], No. 41202/60. Heading F1P. An hydraulic accumulator comprises a rigid container 11, Fig. 1, divided into two chambers by a movable partition 14, and a flexible second partition 27 which is associated with the movable partition, is of a substantially non-resilient, inextensible and impermeable material, and has a size and shape to enable it to lie against this movable partition in all positions of the movable partition. The partition 14 may be in the form of a bladder which is composed of an elastomer, such as synthetic rubber and is secured by a flanged member 21 and a nut 29 to one end of the container, the member being bored to provide a gas port. The second partition, which may be of polyurethane or polyvinyl chloride, is also secured by the member 21 to the container. The opposite end of the container is provided with a liquid port-controlled by a valve 51. The second partition, being impermeable, prevents gas contained therein reaching the bladder 14 and passing through to the liquid on its other side. The bladder may be provided with very small holes through which fluid in the spaces between the bladder and partition passes when the accumulator is initially charged with gas and the bladder and partition are urged to their maximum capacity position in which the bladder completely fills the container. In another embodiment, the bladder 14<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 5, and partition 27<SP>1</SP> are clamped between the flanged member 21<SP>1</SP>, a member 67 and a plate 78, a resilient disc 79 being placed between the plate 78 and container. The members 21<SP>1</SP> and 67 are provided with passages 74, 75, 76 through which the space S<SP>1</SP> can be exhausted of fluid or supplied with a protective fluid if the liquid in the accumulator is radioactive. In a further embodiment, the partition is a piston 84, Fig. 6, having a lip 95 secured at one edge to the piston and having its other edge resiliently urged against the wall of the container to prevent damage to the second partition 89 between the piston and wall. A plug 88 may be removed from the piston to bleed the space S or to supply a small quantity of oil thereto.
