Abstract

916,166. Hydraulic accumulators. GREER HYDRAULICS Inc. Feb. 27, 1959, No. 6961/59. Class 69 (2). An hydraulic accumulator comprises a deformable bladder having a mouth with a thickened portion 36 which is secured to the port 18 of a rigid container 17 by a plate 41 clamped against the opposed surface of a disc 21 having a stem 22 extending through the port, the opposed surfaces of the disc and plate forming an annular cavity C in which the thickened portion of the bladder is compressed and an annular opening in which the portion is of the bladder outside the thickened portion substantially uncompressed. The stem 22 of the disc is screw-threaded to receive an air valve 27 and has a groove 42 in which retaining means 43 consisting of two or more arcuate segments can be fitted to clamp the plate and disc together. A spacer member 46 of resilient material is fitted around the segments 43 and has an upstanding ridge 47 which seals a space 55 when the assembly is secured to the container by a nut 52; the number 46 also prevents the bladder being extruded between the plate 41 and container when the air pressure in the bladder is high. A porous plug 25 of sintered material, such as bronze, prevents the bladder being extruded through the bore of the stem when the air is exhausted from the bladder. The thickened portion 36 of the bladder may be bonded into the annular cavity C. In other embodiments, the retaining means 43 consists of a nut screw-threaded into the stem 22.
