A rock drilling device for mine shafts comprises a ring-shaped beam 15 provided with jacks 28, 29 for clamping it to the walls of the shaft and with trackways 19 on which a plurality of carriages are movably mounted, each carriage supporting a rock-drill mechanism 61, 65 connected to an arm 49 which is pivotally mounted on the carriage. The beam is formed from three V-shaped sections bolted together and provided with bosses 21 into which sleeves 26 for supporting the jacks 28, 29 are pivotally mounted, each jack being actuated by a screw 31 rotated via a sprocket and chain 33. The carriages are provided with rollers 36 for engagement with the trackway 19 and with a pivot 46 on which the arm 49 is rotatably mounted. The rock drill 65 is carried by a pusher leg 61 attached to a member 50 adjustably mounted in the arm, a pivot bush 48 on the arm being formed with teeth 53 for locking engagement with corresponding teeth 54 on the carriage. In operation, the beam is lowered to the desired height and the jack adjusted into contact with the walls of the shaft. The drills are then positioned and compressed air fed to the pusher legs and the drills via pipes 61, 62, 63, 64, the extension of the pusher leg then causing the arm 49 to raise and thereby bring the teeth 53, 54 into locking engagement. The carriage is also forced into firm contact with beam.
