Abstract

963,045. Pneumatic conveyers. HENRY SIMON Ltd. April 16, 1963 [April 24, 1962], No. 15488/62. Heading B8A. In a rotary feeder for delivering pulverulent material to a pneumatic conveyer system, comprising a rotor element within a cylindrical casing 1 having end walls, the rotor element comprises pockets 10 formed by vanes 9 which are substantially tangential to the rotor hub 8 and twisted helically relative to the axis of the rotor, and are forwardly curved in the direction of rotation. The rotor element is mounted on a shaft 5 which is journalled in bearings in the end walls of the casing 1. The vanes 9 are of a cross-sectional profile such that at the operational speed of the rotor, a particle 14 delivered under gravity through an opening 11 in the top of the casing 1, will continue its vertical path 16 while still in contact with either the leading, 15, or trailing face, 17, of the vane. The helical twist of the vanes is such that at the operational speed of the rotor, the outlet ends of the pockets trail behind the air inlet ends of the pockets by an amount which will ensure that the air of the conveyer system passing from an inlet to an outlet port 13 in opposite end walls of the casing 1 will travel along a substantially straight path whilst scavenging the pockets 10.
