Abstract

558,768. Screw conveyers. HOBBS, E. M., and NOVADEL, Ltd. June 15, 1942, No. 19431/43. Divided out of 558,746. [Class 78 (i)] A screw conveyer, particularly for feeding powdered material, comprises a wire 1 bent into the shape of a helix and enclosed within a casing 3 having inlet and outlet openings, means being provided for varying the pitch of the helix. As shown, the means comprises an adjustable screwed plug 10 mounted in a bracket 9 in a discharge hopper or outlet duct 8 into which material is discharged on rotation of the conveyer, the plug serving as a bearing for a spindle 11 extending from a plate 12 fixed to the end of the conveyer. The casing 3 is situated at the base of a feed hopper from which material is fed to the conveyer through an opening in the upper part of the casing.
