Abstract

Detergent compositions, particularly suitable for use as shampoos, comprise (a) a water-soluble salt of a sulphated condensate of a C10-18-fatty alcohol with 1-5 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide, and (b) as a foam stabilizer, the condensate from the mono-ethanol-amide or mono-propanolamide of a C10-18-fatty acid with 2-4 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide. The composition is preferably produced as a paste or liquid comprising 5-20% by weight of (a) which may be an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or alkanolamine salt, but is preferably the sodium salt of the sulphated condensate of 1.7 units of ethylene oxide with lauryl alcohol; (b) usually comprises 2-50% by weight of (a) and is normally derived from coconut fatty acids. An additional foam stabilizer similar in constitution to (b) but containing 5-12 molecular proportions of ethylene oxide may also be included in amounts of 10-50% by weight of (b), and a small amount of sodium chloride may also be incorporated to increase the viscosity of the composition.
