962,398. Sectional boilers. IDEAL-STANDARD Ltd. June 18, 1963 [June 19, 1962; March 6, 1963], No. 24279/63. Heading F4A. A central heating sectional boiler comprises sections having vertical partitions which define at least two separate apertures in each section so that in the assembled boiler corresponding apertures co-operate to form separate combustion chambers to enable the boiler to be operated with liquid or gaseous fuel in one chamber and with solid fuel, especially rubbish to be disposed of, in the other. In the form shown, the boiler sections each have a vertical mid-partition 3 so that when assembled together they form combustion chambers 1, 2. These chambers are fired respectively with oil or gas and with solid fuel, for example, kitchen refuse, which is burnt on a grate 2a. The abutting flanges between the sections are interrupted at 3<SP>1</SP> to provide passages for the gas flow from the solid fuel combustion chamber 2 to outlet flues 4 above the chamber 1. In a modification the outlet flue is located above the solid fuel chamber in the upper part of which is disposed a removable grate. Hot gases from the gaseous or liquid fuel chamber through and over this grate to dry moist refuse thereon so that it becomes ignited.
