Abstract
962,387. Paper-making apparatus. WEST VIRGINIA PULP & PAPER CO. April 16, 1963 [May 18, 1962], No.14801/63. Heading D2A. Pulp is distributed uniformly across the width of a headbox 10 by dividing a stream of pulp into a number of smaller equally sized streams, directing adjacent streams in diverging directions and then conveying the streams so that the streams are blended into one stream of uniform velocity extending across the width of the headbox. In one example pulps flows turbulently from a tapered manifold 18 through pipes 19 the ends 23, 24 of which are inclined so as to direct pulp along diverging wall 28 or 29 of the inlet chamber ofthe headbox. The pulp streams are converged by plates 32 and are mixed by a flow evener roll 21. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, pulp streams, from two rows of pipes 19, attach themselves to the nearer diverging wall 39 or 40. In a further example the pipes 19 are arranged in a single row with each pulp stream being deflected by plates 50, 51 Fig. 7 (not shown) along one or the other of the diverging walls. Suitable dimensions of the pipes 19 and the inlet chamber are given.
