Abstract
Synthetic resin adhesive compositions comprise: Example (1) 13 parts of polyvinyl formal known under the Trade Mark "Formvar", grade 15/95E in 70 parts of ethylene dichloride with 10 parts of a phenol-formaldehyde resin; or Example (2) a phenol-formaldehyde resin prepared by refluxing 80% phenol (560 parts), 37% aqueous formaldehyde solution (560 parts) and sodium hydroxide (2-121 parts) for about 80 minutes, then distilling water and diluting the residue with methylated spirits to a solids content of 43%; the diluted resin (200 parts) then being mixed with 368 parts of industrial methylated spirits and 172 parts of a polyvinyl butyral, Butvar B90 ("Butvar" is a Trade Mark); or Example (3) 100 parts of a soluble synthetic linear polyamide containing N-hydroxymethyl groups ("Zytel 61", Trade Mark) and 35 parts of resorcinol diglycidyl ether with 4 parts dicyandiamide dissolved in sufficient methanol-trichloroethylene mixture (3:1) to give a solution with 30% solids content; or Example (4) 100 parts of an epoxy resin prepared from 2,2-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)-propane and epichlorohydrin melted with 33 parts of hexahydrophthalic anhydride and 2 parts of benzyl dimethylammonium phenate; or Example (5) 75 parts of the phenol-formaldehyde resin of Example (2) above to which are added 5 parts of hexamethylene tetramine; 0.5 part of sodium hydroxide and 25 parts of industrial methylated spirits, 44.8 parts of the resultant solution being added to 200 parts of Zytel 61 in methanol toluene.
