Abstract

The invention comprises monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:0961267/C4-C5/1> wherein the phenyl nucleus may be further substituted, at least one of A1 and A2 is an acylamino residue of formula <FORM:0961267/C4-C5/2> A1 may also be a hydrogen atom and A2 an aliphatic or aromatic acylamino group, n is 1 or 2, X is SO2 or CO, Y is an ethylene or ethene group, Z is SO2, SO, O or S, R is an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl residue or an hydrogen atom and R1 is an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl residue. The dyes are prepared by the usual coupling procedure using suitably substituted components or by acylating monoazo dyes of the above formula which contain a free amino group instead of the acylamino residue, with halides or anhydrides of organic acids containing the residue -X-Y-Z-R1. Monoazo dyes of the above formula wherein A2 is an NH2 group may be acylated with halides or anhydrides of aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids. The dyes may be used to colour animal vegetable and synthetic fibres and particularly cellulose fibres, which are dyed in the presence of an acid-binding agent, in red and blue shades. In examples: (1) the dye 1-amino-2-(b -phenylsulphonylpropionylamino) - benzene - 6 - sulphonic acid --> 1 - (b - phenylsulphonylpropionylamino) - 8 - naphthol - 3,6 - disulphonic acid is prepared; (4) the monoazo dye 1 - amino - 4 - acetylaminobenzene --> 1-amino - 8 - naphthol - 3,6 - disulphonic acid is prepared, saponified with aqueous sodium hydroxide solution and the resultant aminoazo dye treated with an excess of b -phenylsulphonyl-propionyl chloride.
