Abstract

An aqueous coating composition comprises a polyethylene glycol/glycerol/phthalic anhydride/linseed oil fatty acids resin, iron oxide, zinc chromate, barium sulphate and vegetable black.ALSO:An aqueous coating composition comprises a maleinized linseed/tung oil amine stabilized vehicle, iron oxide and mica.ALSO:A hot object, e.g. steel strip, section, joist or drum, at 110-200 DEG C. is coated with a waterborne resin or modified drying oil coating composition, the heat in the object being sufficient to cure the coating on its surface. The composition may be applied by roller, spraying or flow-coating. In the examples the compositions comprise (1) waterborne polyethylene glycol alkyd (polyethylene glycol/glycerol/phthalic anhydride/linseed oil fatty acids), iron oxide, zinc chromate, barium sulphate and vegetable black; (2) waterborne maleinized linseed/tung oil amine stabilized vehicle, iron oxide and mica; (3) and (4) styrene/butadiene or methyl methacrylate/butadiene copolymer latex, iron oxide, mica, zinc chromate and manganese drier.
