A device for the diffusion of fluids comprises a sealed enclosure having three apertures and, containing a plurality of diffusion elements in. the form of flat, parallel boxes having part of their large walls composed of a porous material, communication being provided between the diffusion elements and a cylindrical passageway extending through one of the apertures. The passageway is comprised of cylindrical inserts having mating surfaces and sealed in the diffusion elements with sealing joints between the inserts of adjacent elements. Fig. 1 shows a diffusion element 1 seen from its large side 6, formed of two half-shells of sheet steel welded along their lateral edges 4, 4a and 14, 14a. In the upper part 10 of the element an aperture 11 is provided for a fluid receiver or passageway traversing the diffusion elements. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, two adjacent diffusion elements 1 and 1<SP>1</SP> are joined together by tie rods 8 and 8a which are surrounded by spacer tubes 9 and 9a to provide a fixed distance between the plates and support for tightening the plates. In aperture 11 rings 12 are inserted which form a cylindrical passageway for the effluent fluid ; between two rings sealing is ensured by an annular joint 13. Fluid to be diffused passes between the spaces 26 between adjacent diffusion elements and diffuses through the porous material 6a covering openings 5 into the diffusion elements themselves. Two cylindrical passageways each communicating with the diffusion elements may form the inlet and outlet of the fluid to be treated respectively. Such an arrangement is shown in Fig. 6 (not shown).
