Abstract

1,221,073. Contacting gases with liquids. NIPPON KOKAN K.K. 2 Feb., 1968, No. 5545/68. Heading B1R. [Also in Division F4] Multicorrugated plate elements A for use as packing material in gas-liquid contact apparatus each comprise first corrugations extending across the plate in one direction, each of the folds of the corrugations following a zig-zag path, and further corrugations of greater amplitude and pitch than the first corrugations and superimposed on the first corrugations, each fold of the further corrugations following a straight path. The plates A which can be made either of a synthetic resin or of metal are provided with bosses 6, 6' to facilitate connecting adjacent plates together to define flow spaces for the gas and liquid. V-shaped grooves 4 are formed along opposite sides of each plate and the ends are formed with flat surfaces 5. Rod-shaped support members (10, Fig. 7, not shown) are inserted through holes 9 in the flat end surfaces 5.
